I must fully disclose that the list below of recommendations comes completely from my pal Liz, as these are the places she took me. Anyone who knows Liz knows that the gal has great taste.

What a fun city. I mean really. There are just good vibes, and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is specifically. Maybe it’s the proximity to the seaside, the charming tram ways that are weirdly unreliable. Or the pioneer startups that occupy the city, that entrepreneurial vibe. Or maybe that boozy karaoke on Monday nights at The Knockout. Or the fact that one of my favorite humans lives there. Maybe the hills, the fresh air and the year-round ideal-weather-to-dress-for climate, the donuts. A mix of it all…

We kept it cultural by hitting up the Walt Disney Family Museum on the first day of my 4-day visit. I was not so into the $25 ticket price but holy smokes I can’t express how worth it it is. Walt Disney, the man, not the company, is super interesting. There is a lot to learn about how he made Disney what it is today, and boy did he seem like a rad fella. We dined & strolled on repeat, bought Korean beauty products and sat in front of the Painted Ladies after hitting 10k steps at one point, and figurez-vous that were even lucky enough to experience the warmest of autumn days that was perfect for a stroll on the Ocean Beach.

Just a side note though, no breakfast out beats a breakfast at home with your bestie.

Dinner dates with a homegirl are just the best. So for a little background, my best friend Liz loves her some pizza. Her house parties even in high school always involved delicious homemade pizza that I will never forget. Even when we did a summer internship in New York together during Uni, I always trusted her judgement when it came to pizza joints.

Anyways, she took me to one of her favorite Denver spots, Hops & Pie, for a dinner date when I was last in the Mile High City. I secretly wish there was one in Paris that I could go to all the fucking time because it was some top notch mountain pie. You can pair a brew with your artisanal pizza, with the help of their divine beer menu in a simple Mead binder (yeah, the kind you use in Elementary and Middle School… simplicity = key): cans, bottles and pours from both Colorado and other state’s craft breweries. The bar is impréssionnant, with the colorful taps lined up and loud conversation happening. It really is just a good place to be. That’s a nice feeling when you’re out to eat.

Simple and family friendly with a little hustle bustle, it’s some of Denver’s best pizza and the perfect spot for a dinner out or to be delivered to you while you’re binge watching a good series on Netflix.

While in Denver over the holidays, a weekend in Santa Fe was the perfect getaway within a getaway… entre filles. With my homegirls Liz and Caroline we made the trek due south for a mini 1-night road trip. Only 6 hours from Denver, one of the sources of my mom’s inspiration and taste and a place my bestie knew pretty darn well, believe it or not, I had never been. This entire post was prepared while listening to the song “Santa Fe” from my favorite musical, Rent, on repeat by the way. Ahem.

On the drive down we saw quite a bit of diverse landscapes: blue skies, a blizzard, icey mountain roads, South Park, the Collegiate Peaks covered with hats made of fog, lonely general stores that almost looked abandoned, the Great Sand Dunes from afar, the Colorado/New Mexico border…

Santa Fe is small but filled with history and traditions and it’s own vibe. The adobe buildings bring a whole completely, uniquely and utterly adorable look to the cityscape: one with more nature and for some reason a bit more of a cozy feeling. Something about it is just as charming as fuck. Many of the details were those that inspired my mom to decorate our home, so it all seemed awkwardly familiar. Having always seen my mom in her Native American jewelry as an Arizona-born gal, the local shops had windows filled with silver adorned with stones I somehow knew the name to. Alas, it was a fun experience, and our brief spin through the town still felt so worth it to me with two of my favorite gals on the planet.

Dragon Room @ The Pink Adobe // Restaurant & Bar // Cocktails out

Pasqual’s // Restaurant // Fancy New Mexican meal

The Plaza // Main square with local jewelers and shops

Missing NYC - De quelle planete es tu -1Sometimes a summer in New York with besties is all one really needs. I certainly miss some people there constantly, and a few of the treats, too.

I found myself daydreaming today about my summer in New York in 2011. It seems like it was only yesterday…. Iced coffees on the way to work, cupcakes galore, bricks of different colors and rusty fire escapes. It was a summer filled with the best company, discovering somewhere new.

Looks like I need to make a trip back to visit…

Out in the Highlands - De quelle planète es-tu? 1I’ve been thinking about lately how much I love going out on the town in Denver. These pictures were taken on my last trip home for Christmas, and I just have such fond memories with great company in these lovely places.

I’m currently preparing a Denver Guide for the blog, which will have a list of all of my favorite Denver spots: from sweets to tapas to a damn good brew.

Stay tuned, folks.
